Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemist to lead our kilogram-scale manufacture of specialty chemicals, including dyes and dye intermediates, for both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the production of specialty chemicals on kilogram scales, ensuring high-quality products and efficient processes.
  • Set up, load, and unload chemical apparatus, including reactors, and monitor and control chemical processes.
  • Purify crude products using techniques such as crystallization, chromatography, rotary evaporation, and solvent recovery.
  • Analyze chemical samples using spectroscopy (ultraviolet, visible, infrared, NMR) and interpret data to inform process improvements.
  • Ensure quality control and record keeping, including laboratory notebooks and certificates of analysis.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of chemical equipment, including reactors, evaporators, pumps, and other equipment.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and production reports.
  • Comply with safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines, and internal practices.
  • Support R&D and Manufacturing teams in safety and environmental compliance.
  • Support internal and external customers in safety and environmental compliance.
  • Contribute to corporate Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • 2 years of industrial experience or equivalent.
  • Expertise in handling chemicals and chemical equipment.
  • Experience with running analytical instruments, including GC, UV/Vis spectrometers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with EPA (TSCA), OSHA (including HazCom), ECHA/REACH beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree, Organic Chemistry or Bachelor's degree with 4 years of industrial experience.
  • Expertise in handling chemicals and chemical equipment on kilogram scales.
  • Experience with maintaining an NMR spectrometer and interpreting NMR spectra.
  • Experience with maintaining analytical instruments, including GC, UV/Vis spectroscopy.
  • Familiarity with SciFinder and SAP.
