Job Overview

Objective:

The Horticulture Program at Lincoln University is seeking to fill 6 positions aimed at supporting the agricultural community in Missouri. These roles are designed to enhance the productivity and sustainability of farmers across various regions, including Southwest, Southeast, Northwest, Northeast, and Central Missouri. These full-time positions come with benefits and are part of the College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences.

The selected candidates will collaborate closely with the State Horticulture Specialist, primarily working remotely while serving three counties (the county of residence plus two adjacent counties). Responsibilities include recruiting a dedicated group of 30 horticulture producers, assessing their requirements, and identifying pathways to their success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the State Horticulture Specialist.
  • Identify and engage horticulture producers within the designated counties, creating a comprehensive database to track their needs and aspirations.
  • Recruit a core group of 30 farmers for personalized support.
  • Conduct farm visits and provide technical assistance through various communication channels.
  • Organize educational events such as workshops, conferences, and webinars focused on crop production, protection, marketing, and USDA programs.
  • Create and distribute educational materials to empower farmers in their business endeavors.
  • Develop and disseminate a monthly newsletter to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from Lincoln University, the University of Missouri, and USDA, contributing to agricultural statistics and reporting on program activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for publication development and document management.
  • Ability to utilize computer functions for communication and information sharing.
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms for presentations and collaboration.
  • A background in Crop Production, Crop Protection, Marketing, and Agricultural Technology is highly advantageous.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a commitment to teamwork in a diverse environment.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Horticulture or a related field is mandatory.
  • A master's degree in Horticulture or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant technical experience in Horticulture and associated fields is essential.
  • A valid driving license is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light office work with extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Capability to work outdoors alongside farmers in field settings.
