About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at Ochsner Clinic Foundation. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our mission to serve, heal, lead, educate, and innovate.

Job Summary

This role involves working collaboratively with licensed nurses to maintain patient safety and provide basic patient care. You will be responsible for observing patients, notifying nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status, and intervening as needed to maintain patient safety. Effective communication with co-workers, patients, family, and visitors is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Support the plan of care as delegated by staff nurse within scope of skills verification.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
  • Provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Communicate patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Complete documentation of patient-related tasks.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and communication style.
Requirements
  • Current Louisiana Certification as a Nurses' Assistant (CNA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association to be obtained within 30 days from hire
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) to be obtained within 30 days from hire
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability)

The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
