Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the EP Lab Clinical Coordinator and the direction of a cardiologist, the EP Technologist performs three roles:

  • The EP Technologist sets up and operates specialized equipment, including a physiological data recording system and related computers, programmable stimulators, mapping system, and various generators for ablation procedures.
  • The EP Technologist assists Cardiac Electrophysiologists in the performance of EP Lab procedures by analyzing electrocardiograph data, performing program stimulation of the heart, inducing and terminating cardiac arrhythmia by overdrive pacing or DC cardioversion, applying energy to catheters for purposes of arrhythmia ablation, creating 3D maps of cardiac chambers to evaluate electrical conduction of tachycardias, and entering resulting procedural data into the Cardiovascular programs clinical database.
  • The EP Technologist assists Cardiac Electrophysiologists and Cardiologists in the performance of invasive procedures related to intra-cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers, sets up sterile tables, assists in the application of sterile drapes, hands sterile instruments and sutures to the physician during the procedure, and performs after-care of surgical instruments.

May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles, or syringes from storage locations to patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure.

Qualifications

Experience:

1 year previous experience as an EP or Cath Lab Tech.

Licensure:

BLS-CPR, ACLS, RCES, Registered EP Specialist.

Pay Range:

$71.82/hour.
