The Pharmacy Technician, Associate position focuses on delivering pharmaceutical services within the UPMC Health System. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications while adhering to the regulatory standards established by health authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assist in processing medication orders and ensure proper labeling and inventory management.
  • Support the preparation of both oral and injectable medications, including intravenous solutions, ensuring timely administration to patients.
  • Exhibit expertise in the Sterile Product area, particularly with cytotoxic and hazardous substances.
  • Engage in the medication distribution process, managing controlled substances and handling returned medications appropriately.
  • Foster positive interactions during the medication distribution process and respond to inquiries with professionalism.
  • Assist in the management of investigational and study medications, ensuring compliance with storage regulations.
  • Maintain adherence to regulatory standards for medication storage and keep a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Practice effective hand hygiene, utilize electronic systems for patient data, and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Conduct sales transactions, oversee inventory levels, and comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Participate in the training of pharmacy staff and students, maintain records for controlled substances, and engage in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program or relevant pharmacy experience.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances Required:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting certification with renewal
  • Act 33 certification with renewal
  • Act 34 certification with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
