Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at RWJBarnabas Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for processing, performing, and results medical diagnostic testing on body fluids by automated and manual methods in a timely manner under the supervision of senior technologists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produces medical diagnostic test results in an efficient and cost-effective manner for stat and routine specimens.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs instruments and lab equipment if possible.
  • Maintains all necessary QC, QA, and repair records required by accreditation agencies.
  • Verifies orders from scripts and orders procedures in HIS and LIS.
  • Assists in clerical duties as needed.
  • Assists in the training of new employees and students.
  • Segregates laboratory wastes according to established policies.
  • Works on special projects as requested by Director.
  • Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to assess data reflective of each patient's status and provide appropriate care to the age of the patient served.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • High school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist.
  • MLT certification from ASCP within 8 months of employment or equivalent.
