Job Title: Sensor Mechanics Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Sensor Mechanics Engineer to join our Development Engineering team at I.F.M. USA Inc. in Malvern, PA.

Job Summary:

The Sensor Mechanics Engineer will be responsible for developing mechanical prototypes for flow and temperature sensors, ensuring designs are functional and robust. This role requires hands-on experience with prototype building using machine shop tools and equipment, as well as proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design and modeling.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop mechanical prototypes for sensor technologies, ensuring designs are functional and robust
  • Utilize machine shop tools and equipment to fabricate, assemble, and modify mechanical prototypes
  • Conduct hands-on assembly, testing, and refinement of mechanical prototypes, identifying areas for improvement and iterating designs accordingly
  • Design and execute mechanical experiments to evaluate the performance and durability of sensor prototypes under real-world conditions
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate sensor technologies into mechanical prototypes, ensuring proper fit, form, and function within larger systems
  • Document prototype development processes, test procedures, and results, making clear recommendations for design enhancements
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with prototype building using machine shop tools and equipment
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical design and modeling
  • Experience assembling, testing, and refining mechanical prototypes in a machine shop or lab environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to iterate on designs based on test feedback
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills for presenting results and recommendations to engineering teams
Preferred Skills:
  • 3 years of experience in mechanical prototype development within an engineering environment
  • Familiarity with sensors and their integration into mechanical systems, including hands-on testing and design improvements
  • Knowledge of mechanical testing tools and methods, as well as programming for data analysis (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
  • Understanding of materials used in sensor housings, such as plastics and metals
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment
  • A passion for learning new skills, sharing knowledge, and contributing to continuous improvement

This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys the challenge of prototype development and working in a machine shop environment to bring innovative sensor technologies to life.
