Highway Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Highway Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the State of South Carolina. As a key member of our transportation infrastructure team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of our highway systems.
Key Responsibilities- Operate specialized equipment, including snooper trucks and boom trucks, to perform removal, construction, and maintenance of bridges.
- Perform crane rigging and signaling duties to ensure loads moved by crane are safe and properly secured.
- Conduct skilled labor bridge repairs, including concrete spall repair, bridge joint repairs, pile repairs, and bridge rail repair.
- Operate common power tools, such as drills and chainsaws, and construct wood forms for carpentry projects.
- Perform skilled bridge maintenance worker functions and operate heavy equipment, including backhoes and excavators.
- Assist in the operation of levels, laser levels, grade rods, and other equipment for construction and maintenance projects.
- Operate hydraulically-operated bridge scaffold and tractor trailer 5th wheel combinations for bridge maintenance.
- Two (2) years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position.
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards may be required.
