About the Role

Sunkota Construction is seeking a skilled Steel Erector to join our team. As a Steel Erector, you will play a crucial role in constructing commercial buildings and structures that enhance the landscape of Sioux Falls SD and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and install structural steel buildings and pre-engineered metal buildings through the use of welders, torches, grinders, and measuring tools according to specifications.
  • Rig and hoist steel beams and columns, bar joists, and decking.
  • Connect steel components using bolts, welds, or rivets. Set up, operate, and maintain welding and cutting equipment.
  • Perform a variety of skilled tasks involving commercial construction projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and plans to ensure accurate execution of projects.
  • Participate in the construction of foundations, walls, roofs, and other structural components.
  • Operate and maintain a range of construction tools and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the construction team to meet project deadlines and safety standards.
  • Ensure a safe and clean worksite.
  • Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge in commercial construction techniques.
  • Other construction duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in steel erection.
  • Certified welder preferred. Will assist with certification if needed.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other heavy machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of steel construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Capable of working in physical positions that may include kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, bending over, etc. for extended periods.
  • Must be able to move, carry, or position items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to comply with company policies and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Provide own hand tools.
