About This Role

This position is responsible for a variety of manual tasks requiring physical stamina and the ability to handle demanding work. You will be expected to operate vehicles, maintain equipment, and assist with various public works projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in snow removal operations from city streets and parking lots.
  • Operate a range of motor vehicles, including trucks with a GVWR of up to 26,000 pounds.
  • Perform routine maintenance on assigned vehicles and ensure they are kept clean and in good working order.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of department equipment through preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Engage in general labor duties such as debris removal, leaf raking, grass cutting, snow shoveling, and waste collection from public areas.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of traffic signs, street signage, and traffic signals.
  • Assist with clearing obstructions from sewer systems and operate specialized equipment when necessary.
  • Contribute to the construction, assembly, and repair of snow fences, barricades, picnic tables, and other recreational equipment.
  • May utilize specialized equipment to complete assigned tasks effectively.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks such as cleaning, mopping, and scrubbing restrooms.
  • Direct traffic flow and ensure safety at designated locations.
  • Secure city buildings and parks by shutting down lights, locking gates, and ensuring all facilities are properly secured.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in operating various vehicles, including six-wheel dump trucks.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Physical capability to perform demanding manual labor tasks.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Capacity to lift heavy objects safely.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to respond promptly to emergencies and work in diverse weather conditions.
  • Commitment to maintaining sobriety and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Excellent physical endurance and fitness level suitable for the demands of the role.
