Team Overview:

The Marketplace Engineering team is dedicated to developing core platforms and services that empower Walmart to offer a vast selection at competitive prices, ensuring a best-in-class customer experience. We facilitate third-party sellers in accessing the marketplace platform, enabling them to sell and manage their products effectively. Our team manages the entire seller lifecycle, monitors customer experiences, and provides valuable insights to assist sellers in optimizing their assortment, pricing, and inventory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical expertise and leadership to promote the adoption of superior engineering practices while staying updated on industry innovations and trends.
  • Lead and engage in medium to large-scale projects by analyzing project requirements, translating them into technical solutions, and conducting unit testing.
  • Develop scalable services capable of processing millions of requests daily, addressing complex software system challenges with cutting-edge technology.
  • Gain exposure to various technologies utilized in Marketplace and E-commerce platforms.
  • Design and implement backend microservices and APIs for web applications using the JVM ecosystem (Kotlin, Java) and other languages/frameworks (Python, Go).
  • Collaborate with project teams and cross-functional groups, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely delivery and hand-offs.
  • Resolve business and production issues by gathering relevant information, engaging support teams, and formulating action plans.
  • Provide business support by addressing users' inquiries and concerns regarding technical feasibility and implementation strategies.
  • Drive high-visibility projects across the organization.
  • Lead the team in system and application design.
  • Oversee team projects by reviewing requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
  • Facilitate the discovery phase of projects to establish high-level designs in collaboration with product management and user experience teams.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience with 10+ years of experience in architecting large-scale systems.
  • Expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python).
  • Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures.
  • Proven knowledge of microservices architecture and extensible REST APIs.
  • Experience in cloud application development and message-oriented architecture.
  • Familiarity with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS models and hands-on experience with public or private cloud offerings.
  • Experience with automation tools and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Advanced understanding of performance, scalability, and system architecture.
  • Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience in large-scale distributed systems.
  • Fluency with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Strong inclination towards exploring and learning new technologies.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts.
  • Previous experience in the marketplace domain is a plus.
