Overview
This specialized medical-surgical unit is dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with orthopedic and trauma-related conditions. Recognized by the Joint Commission as a premier hip fracture unit, our geriatric fracture program aims to facilitate fracture repairs within 24 hours of patient arrival. The unit is also accredited by the International Geriatric Fracture Society. Our team on 4 North is dynamic, consisting of experienced professionals who work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. We offer self-scheduling options along with a rotating weekend and holiday schedule. Position Details: LOCATION: Main facility HOURS: Full-time 0.9 FTE (72 hours/2 weeks); night shift with three 12-hour shifts weekly; rotating weekends and holidays. Sign-on bonus may be available. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates will demonstrate the ability to perform the following essential functions:
  • Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
  • Operate as both an independent and collaborative member of the healthcare team, adhering to the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive aspects.
  • Monitor progress towards care goals and adjust care plans based on observed trends and changes.
  • Gather and manage comprehensive health data relevant to the patient's condition.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify diagnoses or issues, creating culturally and ethically sensitive care plans.
  • Deliver care knowledgeably and coordinate efforts across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership by clearly communicating care standards and supporting team members in their roles.
  • Uphold our values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Assign, delegate, and supervise tasks among team members, ensuring continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology as appropriate.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in nursing service delivery.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are secondary to the primary responsibilities:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing nurse-patient relationships and minimizing redundancies.
  • Complete mandatory training focused on age-specific needs and interpersonal skills as outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to evidence-based practices and promptly reporting safety issues.
  • Exhibit pride in work through positive interactions with staff, patients, and others.
  • Pursue formal and independent learning opportunities to advance clinical and professional skills.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to peers and subordinates to improve the professional practice environment.
  • Participate in the performance evaluation process for team members, addressing any issues that arise.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current RN Licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit until the RN license is obtained.
  • Candidates with Temporary Practice Permits must take the NCLEX within 60 days of starting in the RN role.
  • A graduate registered nurse may only practice under supervision if holding a current temporary practice permit.
  • All Clinical Nurse 1 RNs must successfully complete the Nurse Residency Program.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • As outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. For Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher level nursing degree is required for incumbents based on previously established parameters.
