Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Orthopaedic Technician to join our team at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health. The successful candidate will provide exceptional patient care and support in our ambulatory clinic, inpatient, and emergency room settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cast Application and Adjustment: Apply and adjust fiberglass/plaster casts, braces, and/or splints, and assist with assembling and attaching orthopaedic traction equipment and devices.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients on proper care and usage of casts.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with specialty teams to provide outstanding patient service in an innovative and fast-paced Orthopaedic Practice.
  • Training and Development: Act as a resource for colleagues with less casting experience and train others on proper casting techniques.
  • Assistance with Minor Procedures: Provide assistance to the physician during minor procedures.
  • Wound Care and Fracture Reduction: Assist provider in cleansing wounds and assist in reducing fractures and application of surgical dressing.
  • Splint and Brace Fitting: Fit thermoplastic splints and/or braces.
  • Cast Saw Maintenance: Inspect cast saws to ensure optimal performance.
  • Patient Escort and Exam Assistance: Escort patients to exam rooms and assist physicians with exams as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory and security of devices and supplies for the care of orthopaedic patients.
  • Committee Participation: Participate in and/or facilitate site-wide committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.
  • Continuous Learning: Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning and teamwork.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate Degree in Science in Orthopaedic Technology required.
  • Experience: One (1) year of previous health care related experience preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Medical Terminology: Ability to read and understand medical terminology.
Required Certifications
  • Registration: Currently Registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians.
  • Certification: Certification as an Orthopaedic Technologists (OTC) by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT), or registration as a Registered Orthopedic Technologist, R.O.T. by the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP).
  • BLS Certification: Certification in BLS required.
