Job Summary
Deliver critical emergency medical services to the community. Respond promptly to emergency situations involving injured or ill individuals. Facilitate inter-facility transfers to and from hospitals, nursing homes, or other designated locations while providing necessary medical care. Assist in the upkeep of equipment and facilities, and perform minor administrative tasks as required.
Key Responsibilities
This section outlines the primary duties and responsibilities associated with this role.
Provide emergency medical services by responding to urgent calls, administering basic and advanced life support, and conducting local and regional inter-facility transfers. Responsibilities also include restocking supplies, decontaminating equipment, and performing additional tasks essential for saving lives.
Conduct public tours of facilities, offering education on EMS and safety, while maintaining ongoing education and physical training.Perform light maintenance duties for buildings and vehicles.
Execute other tasks as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and Skills
Proficient in operating and driving an ambulance safely and professionally during both emergency and non-emergency situations.
Expertise in administering emergency medical techniques, conducting patient assessments, and utilizing specialized equipment.
Strong oral, verbal, and written communication skills.
Proficient in computer use, including MS Office and other relevant software.
Abilities
Ability to respond swiftly and calmly in emergencies and to lead colleagues during critical situations.
Ability to inspect, operate, and maintain EMS equipment, meeting DSHS certification standards.
Ability to maintain BLS certification.
Ability to swim proficiently and demonstrate such in a swim test.
Ability to develop physical strength and agility to perform demanding tasks under challenging conditions.
Ability to engage in the fire department's physical fitness program.
Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Ability to maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Other Characteristics
Adhere to standards that meet or exceed the NAEMT Code of Ethics; uphold high ethical standards; exemplify professionalism, integrity, commitment, and teamwork as an EMT within the Fire Department.
Education, Certification, and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver's license.
Must hold a current Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification at the time of employment.
Valid BLS Healthcare Provider certification required.
Minimum Qualifications
Active DSHS EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic certification.
Valid Texas Driver's License with a driving record that meets City of Kerrville standards.
Salary and Benefits
EMT1: $46,011.68/year = $3,834.31/month
Base Pay plus Certification & Education Pay, if qualified. Minimum EMT Basic or Advanced EMT certification required upon hire. Schedule: 12 hr
EMT2: $51,014.49/year = $4,251.21/month
Base Pay plus Certification & Education Pay, if qualified. Minimum EMT Basic or Advanced EMT certification required upon hire. Schedule: 24 hr.
MEDIC: $57,474.56/year = $4,789.55/month
Base Pay plus Certification & Education Pay, if qualified. Paramedic certification required upon hire. Schedule: 24 hr.

DSHS Certification Pay:
DOQ $600/year = $50/month. EMT Basic $900/year = $75/month. Advanced EMT $4,200/year = $350/month. Paramedic Level I $5,100/year = $425/month. Paramedic Level II (after probation)
Specialty Team Pay:
$300/year = $25/month.
Step Pay Plan: 3% every year to a maximum. Longevity pay = $48 for each year of service.
Texas Municipal Retirement System: Employee contributes 7%, City matches 2:1, vested in 5 years.
