The Distance Education department at Arkansas State University Beebe is seeking two Federal Work Study students to work 12 hours per week for the Fall 2024/Spring 2025 terms. As a Federal Work Study Student - Assistive Technology Support Specialist, you will be responsible for producing content in alternate media formats, preparing requested materials related to course documents for use in Canvas, updating courses with alt text and closed captions, and assisting with HTML code in Canvas as needed for standard compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Produce content in alternate media formats, such as audio descriptions and closed captions, to ensure equal access to course materials for students with disabilities.
- Prepare requested materials related to course documents, including syllabi, assignments, and exams, for use in Canvas, the university's learning management system.
- Update courses with alt text and closed captions, as well as other curriculum content application updates, to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
- Assist with HTML code in Canvas as needed to ensure standard compliance and accessibility.
Requirements:
- Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware and software programs and quickly grasp new technologies.
- Basic maintenance of educational equipment, including printers, scanners, and other devices.
- Basic office methods, practices, and procedures, including filing, record-keeping, and data entry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with assistive technology, such as screen readers and closed captioning software.
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS coding.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary: $11.00 per hour
