Overview
This role involves executing a range of technical tasks associated with the acquisition and evaluation of field and laboratory data. The position includes overseeing field and laboratory operations related to wastewater management, surface water assessment, biosolids treatment, and soil analysis.
Primary Duties- Directs, oversees, and evaluates the work of technical staff.
- Facilitates team efforts in various assignments.
- Monitors ongoing research initiatives.
- Reviews and revises operational procedures and quality assurance plans.
- Conducts analyses of water and biological specimens utilizing diverse instruments.
- Gathers samples in accordance with established protocols.
- Manages maintenance schedules for water quality monitoring equipment.
- Supervises toxicity assessments on aquatic species.
- Provides training for new technical staff.
- Oversees the collection and analysis of samples.
- Inspects and evaluates laboratory equipment.
- Compiles reports and documents findings.
- Maintains logs for repairs and inventory management.
- Operates laboratory equipment effectively.
- Prepares standards and chemical reagents.
- Performs additional assigned responsibilities as needed.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with metric measurements, scientific terminology, and methodologies.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
- Capability to adhere to instructions meticulously.
- Proficiency in performing calculations and maintaining precise records.
- Skill in sample collection and analytical techniques.
- Ability to organize and coordinate tasks efficiently.
- Effective communication skills.
Required Qualifications
Completion of high school education plus two years of post-secondary education in relevant fields, along with three years of scientific experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Substitution Policy
Additional academic coursework or extensive experience may be considered as a substitute.
Promotional Criteria
- Minimum of one year of service in related roles.
- Civil service status is mandatory.
