Janitorial Specialist

Melwood Veterans Services is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodial Worker to join our team. As a Custodial Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our employees and visitors.

• Sweep and Mop Hallways, Stairs, and Offices: Ensure all areas are clean and free of debris, using a variety of cleaning solutions and equipment.
• Empty Wastebaskets and Dispose of Trash: Properly dispose of trash and recyclables, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
• Dust Horizontal Surfaces: Dust all horizontal surfaces, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment, to maintain a clean and dust-free environment.
• Empty and Wash Ashtrays: Empty and wash ashtrays, ensuring they are clean and free of debris.
• Clean Bathrooms: Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, showers, and mirrors.
• Wax and Buff Floors: Apply wax and buff floors to maintain a clean and shiny appearance.
• Clean Glass and Windows: Clean glass and windows, ensuring they are free of streaks and smudges.
• Wash Walls and Other Vertical Surfaces: Wash walls and other vertical surfaces, including doors, door frames, and baseboards.
• Sweep and Clear Snow from Outside Steps and Sidewalks: Clear snow and ice from outside steps and sidewalks, ensuring safe access to the facility.
• Polish Kick Panels, Doorknobs, and Other Designated Fixtures: Polish kick panels, doorknobs, and other designated fixtures, maintaining a clean and shiny appearance.
• Strip and Wax Floors: Strip and wax floors, maintaining a clean and shiny appearance.
• Vacuum Rugs: Vacuum rugs and carpets, ensuring they are clean and free of debris.
• Mix Cleaning Solutions: Mix cleaning solutions, following established protocols and procedures.
• Maintain Issued Equipment: Maintain issued equipment, including cleaning and storing it properly.
• Notify Supervisor When Supplies and Equipment Are Needed: Notify supervisor when supplies and equipment are needed to perform tasks.
• All Other Duties Assigned by Custodial Foreman: Perform all other duties assigned by the Custodial Foreman, as needed.

• Supervision Received: The incumbent is supervised by the Site Foreman.

• Standing, Walking, and Sitting: The incumbent must be able to stand 80% of the work time, walk 15%, and sit 5%.
• Lifting and Carrying: The incumbent must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds in order to clean work areas and handle supplies and equipment.
• Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Reaching, and Handling: The incumbent must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and handle, as needed.
• Communication: The incumbent must be able to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
• Vision, Depth Perception, and Color Recognition: The incumbent must be able to see, have depth perception, and tell colors for safety reasons, and to distinguish between chemicals.

• Training or Experience: The incumbent must have six months training or experience.
• Essential Functions: The incumbent must be capable of performing the essential functions.
• Security Clearance: The incumbent must be able to pass security clearance for designated contracts.
