Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Ironworker Apprentice to join our team at M. A. Mortenson. As an Ironworker Apprentice, you will play a critical role in reinforcing concrete and building structures by marking, positioning, and securing structural steel members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting up and flagging areas for construction
  • Inspecting rigging and equipment to ensure proper use
  • Running site levels to ensure accuracy
  • Checking-in truck deliveries and counting materials
  • Directing forklift and crane operations
  • Shaking out rebar and distributing materials
  • Using pliers to tie rebar intersections
  • Splicing mats and rebar sections together
  • Understanding building codes and requirements
  • Cutting excess rebar ends and miscellaneous pieces
  • Installing mechanical rebar splices
  • Installing caps on vertical rebar dowels
  • Installing rebar dowels into fresh concrete footings
  • Determining the number, size, shape, and location of reinforcing rods
  • Bending steel rods with hand tools or rodbending machines
  • Reinforcing concrete with wire mesh
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three years related experience
  • Must have passed the Apprentice Aptitude Test
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
