The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure accurate and detailed documentation of patient encounters in a timely manner. This involves capturing and entering information into the electronic health record (EHR) as directed by the provider.
Scribes are not permitted to make independent decisions or translations while capturing or entering information into the health record or EHR beyond what is directed by the provider.
Qualifications for the Position:Current certification from a recognized medical assisting organization, such as the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), is required. Additionally, a preceptorship of 400+ clinical hours in Cardiology and Basic Life Support Certification are necessary.
Effective communication skills and the ability to interact with physicians, staff, and patients in a professional manner are essential for this role.
Specific Duties:- Assist physicians in the care and management of patients.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, including exam rooms and hallways.
- Assist providers in navigating the EHR.
- Respond to messages as directed by the provider.
- Locate and retrieve information for review, such as previous notes, reports, test results, and laboratory results.
- Enter information into the EHR as directed by the provider.
- Research information requested by the provider.
- Accompany providers in the Cath Lab and enter information in real-time using individually assigned security rights.
- Document pertinent information for the physician concerning the projected plan of care for the patient.
- Provide information to clerical personnel concerning billing for services rendered by the physician.
- Complete all necessary and required documentation for each patient encounter.
- Create accurate and complete electronic documentation as required and enter electronic messages to other departments to assist with patient flow and document patient wait times.
Keeps work area neat and organized, reports safety issues to the team leader immediately, and works efficiently and manages time wisely. Assists other employees when all duties are complete and communicates any problems, difficulties, or concerns regarding job duties to the Nursing Team Leader.
Performs all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity, meets all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments, and represents the Cardiovascular Institute of the South in a professional manner at all times.
Demonstrates acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff, and external customers on a professional level at all times and exhibits good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times.
Exhibits a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position and adheres to the CIS Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties.
