Position Overview:

San Bernardino County is seeking a dedicated Patient Advocate to effectively address and resolve patient concerns and unmet needs, ensuring a positive experience for patients and their families.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a liaison for patients experiencing various health challenges, providing thoughtful suggestions and resolving non-medical issues that may arise during treatment.
  • Investigate potential violations of patient rights and conduct regular assessments within hospital units to identify and address concerns.
  • Facilitate monthly grievance committee meetings to review complaints and develop actionable improvement plans.
  • Develop, interpret, and revise policies and procedures related to Patient Advocacy, while educating staff and management on best practices.

Employment Conditions:

Pre-Employment Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete a background check, including fingerprinting and verification of work history and education.

Work Schedule: Flexibility for occasional weekends or evenings may be necessary.

Education Requirements: An Associate's degree or equivalent coursework in Behavioral/Social Science, Healthcare/Business Administration, or a related field is required. Candidates lacking this degree must provide a list of completed coursework.


Experience Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Option 1: Six months of experience in patient advocacy or rights duties within a healthcare setting.
  • Option 2: One year of experience in social services, providing counseling and case management.
  • Option 3: Eighteen months of experience assessing client needs and explaining relevant laws and services.
  • Option 4: Two years of clerical experience in a healthcare environment with significant public interaction.

Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will ideally possess a Bachelor's degree in Social Work/Social Services, experience in Patient Advocacy or Social Work, and exceptional interpersonal skills. Bilingual candidates in English and Spanish are highly preferred.
