Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team at the Department of Natural Resources. As a GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining interactive GIS web map applications, providing GIS training and technical support to our scientists, and maintaining and publishing map services that make our wide array of geologic datasets available to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing interactive GIS web map applications, such as story maps, dashboards, experiences, and instant apps.
  • Providing GIS training and technical support to our scientists.
  • Maintaining and publishing map services that make our wide array of geologic datasets available to the public.
  • Working with Esri GIS solutions, including publishing map services and developing online map experiences and apps using Esri tools.
  • Designing and managing database schemas.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography or other related field, AND 3 years of experience in the following areas: Using ArcGIS Pro, Working with Esri GIS solutions, including publishing map services and developing online map experiences and apps using Esri tools, Designing and managing database schemas.
  • Experience in explaining complex topics orally and in writing to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of geographic map projections, datums, and coordinate systems.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Geography or other related field.
  • Coursework or work experience in geology or physical geography.
  • Familiarity with coding languages such as Python, Arcade, or JavaScript.
