Job Overview
The Retail Operations Manager Trainee (ROMT) plays a crucial role in assisting the Store Manager with the daily management of retail activities within the store. This position encompasses sales performance, team leadership, and operational excellence. The ROMT will gain comprehensive exposure to all facets of store management, laying the groundwork for a successful career in retail leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the team in achieving overall sales targets and objectives.
- Assist in managing human resources functions at the store level, including staff scheduling and timecard oversight.
- Provide guidance, feedback, and coaching to enhance team collaboration and productivity.
- Participate in the recruitment and training of support managers and customer-focused associates.
- Help manage the store's profit and loss by driving revenue and strategically controlling expenses.
- Contribute to the development and execution of strategies aimed at boosting sales and key performance indicators.
- Analyze customer profiles, purchasing trends, and competitive data to influence business decisions.
- Train and mentor the team to uphold customer service standards and adhere to company policies.
- Organize and oversee in-store events, marketing initiatives, and customer relationship management activities to encourage repeat business.
- Implement visual merchandising strategies to optimize space and enhance sales.
- Oversee inventory management processes, including product receipt, transfers, and returns.
- Ensure the store is clean and organized, maintaining both customer-facing and stock areas.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experienced with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Knowledgeable in back-office operations, visual merchandising, and staff recruitment/training.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capable of managing and mentoring a diverse team.
- Able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Proficient in making independent decisions or escalating issues as necessary.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field is preferred, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in retail management and at least 3 years in a customer service role.
