SUPERVISOR: Nurse Manager, Health Services

PAY GRADE: 82 - $38.30 (based on qualifications and experience)

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Clinic Nurse is responsible for enhancing the health and wellness of clients at the Villa of Hope Behavioral Health Clinics. This role involves delivering care in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

The Clinic Nurse may also assist in onboarding new staff and provide mentorship to nursing students. The role demands adherence to the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to the Justice Center's Code of Conduct for Individuals with Special Needs.
  • Ensure compliance with Agency policies, procedures, and all relevant Federal and State laws.
  • Conduct nursing assessments for new clients, including accurate collection of vital signs and other relevant health metrics.
  • Perform communicable disease risk assessments.
  • Gather and maintain health and psychiatric records, along with health monitoring data.
  • Document nursing information accurately in an electronic health record system.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by a Nurse Practitioner or Physician, and manage pharmacy deliveries.
  • Oversee the medication preauthorization process and secure necessary approvals.
  • Utilize Villa of Hope documentation forms and systems effectively.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by clinic leadership.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments, evaluations, triage, and harm reduction education for clients with Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health issues.

ROLE-SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Follow regulatory guidelines set by the NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and the NYS Office of Mental Health Services.
  • Manage medication requests and verify controlled substance prescriptions through the NYS PMP website.
  • Respond to pharmacy requests promptly.
  • Handle prior authorization requests from initiation to completion.
  • Administer and document treatments for Sublocade, Vivitrol, and Long-Acting IM medications.
  • Initiate refill requests with specialty pharmacies, including insurance verification.
  • Document and inventory medications received from specialty pharmacies.
  • Complete quarterly medication destruction with appropriate documentation.
  • Create lab requests for providers as needed.
  • Conduct health screenings for new clients.
  • Address urgent medical needs of clients and staff within the clinic.

Assist clients in obtaining Primary Care Providers and support them with Medicaid recertification.

  • Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners on submission of school-related documentation.
  • Manage clinic inventory of medical supplies.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings regularly.
  • Facilitate orientation for new staff in the clinic nursing role.
  • Organize annual in-service training sessions for clinic staff on Sublocade and Vivitrol.
  • Provide on-call triage support for residential programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing and walking are essential for the majority of the shift; must navigate various terrains and weather conditions.
  • Regular lifting of medical supplies and patient-related materials, weighing up to twenty pounds.
  • Bending is necessary for patient care and to mitigate environmental hazards.
  • Kneeling is required for operating medical equipment and performing CPR.
  • Promote and practice diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in interactions with clients and staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Current NYS RN licensure.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least one year of post-licensure nursing experience, ideally in psychiatric, mental health, or substance use disorder outpatient settings.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification is preferred.

Skills:

  • CPR/First Aid and BLS Certification.
  • Narcan training is advantageous.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems and basic nursing competencies.
  • Willingness to travel between Villa of Hope locations as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
