ROLE SUMMARY
The Staff Pharmacist II at North Mississippi Health Services is a dynamic role emphasizing clinical care, education, operational efficiency, research, and adherence to regulatory standards. This position is pivotal in coordinating patient care across diverse healthcare environments, delivering medication education, engaging in research activities, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Duties:
- Facilitates and coordinates patient care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
- Acts as a resource for pharmacy staff and other healthcare team members.
- Contributes to the design and implementation of clinical pharmacy services.
- Participates in the training and development of pharmacy personnel.
- Monitors and manages pharmacotherapy for specific patient populations.
- Develops comprehensive care plans that encompass medications, devices, and delivery methods.
Educational Responsibilities:
- Provides education on pharmacotherapy.
- Supports programs tailored to the needs of pharmacy and healthcare professionals.
- Creates objectives for student and resident training.
- Offers medication education to patients and their families.
- Engages in educational initiatives focused on disease prevention and wellness.
- Participates in performance improvement activities within the department.
- Maintains required Continuing Education (CE) hours.
Operational Functions:
- Assists in the prevention and resolution of medication misuse.
- Possesses knowledge of pharmacy and medical claims systems.
- Understands the operations of retail and hospital outpatient settings.
- Familiar with billing and reimbursement processes.
- Verifies patient insurance benefits and precertifications for third-party payers.
Financial and Budget Management:
- Evaluates drug therapy treatment regimens in designated practice areas.
- Supports compliance with departmental budgetary constraints.
- Contributes to the ongoing revision of the system-wide formulary.
Research Engagement:
- Coordinates and participates in pharmacological research and development in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensures adherence to accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety standards.
- Follows established policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited pharmacy school (Required).
- Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) (Preferred).
Licenses and Certifications:
- Licensed as a Pharmacist by the State Board of Pharmacy (Required upon hire).
Experience:
- 4-6 years in a comparable health system pharmacy (Required).
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency or equivalent clinical practice experience (Required).
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Required).
- Proficiency in multiple clinical or operational areas (Required).
