Position Overview

The Loudoun County Department of General Services is actively seeking skilled candidates for the role of Senior Building Systems Specialist. This role is integral to the special projects team and involves the organization, oversight, and management of building systems for County facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage intricate construction and maintenance initiatives, including significant facilities maintenance and infrastructure replacement projects.
  • Execute assigned initiatives while adhering to established timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Oversee the development of building assessments and ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Create pre-designed programs and professional service contracts, detailing scopes of work for construction projects.
  • Establish and maintain facility maintenance and repair programs to promote safe and effective usage, enhancing the longevity of facilities.
  • Supervise contractors to ensure all contractual obligations are met and conduct inspections of construction sites.
  • Utilize the Asset Management System for project planning and asset procurement.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of various trades involved in building systems.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, or a related field (a Master's degree is preferred) with coursework in HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical system design. A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in managing the engineering, operations, and maintenance of complex building systems is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred but not mandatory:

  • Background and proficiency in Mechanical Systems and/or MEP Trades (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing)
  • Relevant certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facilities Manager (CFM), and/or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Prior experience with Asset Management Systems

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license and will undergo pre-employment criminal and DMV background checks, including fingerprinting. Driving records will be reviewed annually to ensure continued qualification. The candidate must be capable of inspecting existing facilities and active construction projects, endure exposure to inclement weather, and hazardous conditions associated with construction sites. The ability to lift up to seventy (70) pounds is required. Availability for duty beyond standard work hours and a 24/7 response to County emergencies is essential.
