JOB SUMMARY

The City of Buena Park is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Civil Engineer to contribute to our Public Works Division. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication abilities and be adept at addressing community inquiries while assisting in the planning and execution of various transportation and traffic engineering initiatives. Responsibilities may encompass a range of engineering tasks, including signal enhancements, roadway rehabilitation, signage and striping design, traffic management, and parking analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, the Junior Civil Engineer will engage in professional and technical engineering assignments related to public works, private developments, and traffic signal projects. Key duties include:
  1. Developing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for various projects, including sewer, street, and traffic control installations.
  2. Utilizing computer-aided design software to prepare and update detailed drawings and maps.
  3. Estimating material and labor costs for development projects and capital improvements.
  4. Providing guidance to engineering technicians regarding construction specifications and engineering calculations.
  5. Conducting field inspections to verify measurements and assess site conditions.
  6. Assisting in the review and processing of land development and traffic control plans.
  7. Analyzing traffic data and preparing reports for city officials.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. A minimum of one year of relevant engineering experience, along with proficiency in AutoCAD software, is required. Candidates with Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) certification may substitute for the required experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of civil engineering principles, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. Proficiency in using computer-aided design tools and strong analytical skills are essential for success in this role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position involves both office and fieldwork, requiring the ability to adapt to varying conditions and manage multiple tasks effectively.
