Position Overview
The role of the Custodian is crucial in ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the warehouse and its surrounding areas, including restrooms, exterior docks, break rooms, and compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of floors using various tools such as brooms, mops, and floor scrubbers to eliminate dust, debris, and spills.
- Utilize power jacks for the efficient movement of products and pallets during deep cleaning tasks.
- Adhere to sanitation checklists and work orders for routine cleaning and supply management of restrooms and office spaces.
- Follow Material Safety Data Sheets for the safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Conduct pre-work inspections on all cleaning tools and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and general safety protocols.
- Regularly empty waste and recycling bins to prepare materials for disposal.
- Identify areas requiring maintenance or additional cleaning based on visual assessments.
- Clear walkways and maintain exterior cleanliness as needed.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience in warehouse or office cleaning is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic communication skills in English and fundamental math skills are necessary.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to chemical usage and storage.
Work Environment
This position may involve prolonged periods of standing, walking, and bending in a refrigerated setting. The ability to lift up to 60 lbs is required, along with frequent use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
