This role involves continuous observation of cardiac monitor readings and rhythms via the central monitoring system, ensuring timely communication of any significant changes to the relevant medical staff.


Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Functions

  • Upon receiving a physician's directive for telemetry monitoring

The technician is responsible for:
a. assigning a telemetry monitor and inputting patient details into the central monitoring system

b. carefully placing the telemetry device on the patient, confirming identity with two approved identifiers

c. preparing the patient's skin for monitoring

d. accurately positioning leads

e. securing the monitoring device

f. confirming with the central monitoring station the correct patient details, heart rate, and rhythm

g. documenting necessary information in the electronic medical record

  • Observing and interpreting cardiac rhythms and rates
  • Recording rhythm strips accurately every four hours.
  • Reporting any changes in a patient's heart rate or rhythm promptly
  • Conducting a reconciliation process every four hours to align hospital census with central monitoring data
  • Maintaining detailed interdepartmental records
  • Safely and effectively operating monitoring equipment

Equipment Care:
Ensuring proper cleaning, storage, and timely reporting of any equipment issues

  • Fostering positive working relationships within the department and across other departments.
  • Engaging professionally with patients and their families, providing necessary explanations and reassurance.
  • Exhibiting flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Meeting annual competency standards, including rhythm interpretation assessments.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Utilizes common sense and specialized medical skills to assist patients.
  • Comprehends technical information from supervisors, charts, manuals, and labels.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using visual, auditory, and tactile skills.
  • Acts decisively in emergencies, providing necessary life-saving interventions.
  • Communicates effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Follows and provides clear instructions.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Reasoning, mathematical, and language skills are indicative of the general competencies required for this position. Some, but not all, areas mentioned may be included in this role.
