Inpatient rehabilitation nursing professional
DEFINITION:
Formulate and execute comprehensive nursing care for patients through thorough assessment, nursing diagnosis, and individualized care plans. Provide leadership by collaborating effectively with ancillary nursing staff and other healthcare team members to uphold professional nursing standards in clinical environments.
Establish systems to deliver care across diverse populations, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.EDUCATION:
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE):
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
Current Basic Life Support certification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Consideration may be given to experience, academic attendance, and performance records.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Engage in and apply age-specific care and interactions.
1.1. Completion of departmental orientation and annual in-service education for age-specific training.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team (RN, LPN, NA, Physician, and ancillary disciplines) to assess patient and family needs.
This includes:
pediatric, geriatric, and other patient demographics.
2.2. Effectively assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate pain management strategies.

Analyze data regarding the patient's condition to identify age-specific needs and deliver necessary care.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to devise a care plan addressing the physiological, spiritual, emotional, mental, social, and developmental needs of the patient.
3.2. Respond appropriately to requests for additional resources or issue resolution.
3.3. Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and families.
3.4. Develop a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and assess the effectiveness of the education provided. Family involvement is encouraged where appropriate.
3.5. Interact professionally with patients and families, including them in the care planning process.
3.6. Consult with other departments as necessary to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
3.7. Coordinate and supervise patient care as required.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team in executing the patient's care plan.
Exhibit knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and the skills required to provide age-appropriate care.
4.2. Execute patient care responsibilities while considering the specific needs related to the patient's age and clinical condition.4.3.
Perform all patient care tasks in an environment that prioritizes patient safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
4.4. Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure.4.5. Assist physicians with procedures and perform tasks requiring technical and manual skills.
4.6. Show competence in administering treatments and providing services within the scope of practice.
5. Administer medications accurately and safely.
5.1. Understand medications and their proper administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
5.2. Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors.
6. Consistently evaluate patient/family responses to interventions to assess progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
6.1. Modify care plans based on patient responses and evaluate the overall effectiveness daily.
6.2. Educate patients and families regarding pain management.
- Communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively, accurately, and professionally with patients, families, and all healthcare team members.
7.2. Document in accordance with current standards and policies.
7.3. Communicate with healthcare team members regarding both in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
7.4. Utilize available technology to enhance communication and ensure patient safety.
- Participate in the education and development of staff and students.
8.2. Foster positive relationships with students and faculty.
- Adhere to professional requirements, organizational policies, and departmental procedures.
9.2. Correctly use computerized timekeeping systems.
9.3. Complete work within designated timeframes.
9.4. Fulfill annual educational requirements and monthly in-services promptly.
9.5. Comply with dress code standards.
9.6. Wear identification badges while on duty.
9.7. Attend a minimum of 75% of staff meetings annually and review all monthly meeting minutes.
9.8. Actively engage in performance improvement initiatives.
9.9. Participate in Magnet Recognition preparation activities.
9.10. Legally comply with all regulatory agencies, including the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to infectious diseases and unpleasant odors.

- Handling of sharp instruments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
HAND AND ARM USE:
- Must possess adequate dexterity to initiate IVs, prepare medications, and administer injections.
- Ability to operate and manage medical equipment and complex technological devices, including keyboards, monitors, and IVACs.
- Must be able to write clearly and legibly.
LIFTING AND CARRYING:
- Requires lifting of adult and pediatric patients.
- Involves lifting of monitors, oxygen tanks, backboards, supply boxes, and other equipment daily.
- Seek assistance when weight exceeds individual capability.
PUSHING AND PULLING:
- Involves transferring and transporting patients and/or various equipment, including beds and wheelchairs.
- Seek assistance when weight exceeds individual capability.
CLIMBING:
- Required to stand, walk, reach, or stoop for more than 75% of the workday.
- May need to work in confined positions while assisting with medical procedures such as casting, splinting, suturing, and lumbar punctures.
- May be required to run or climb during emergency situations.
SENSE OF TOUCH:
- Must possess tactile sensitivity to palpate pulses, veins, body temperature, and assess for physical abnormalities.
HEARING:
- Must be able to hear patients to obtain history and complete physical assessments, including auscultation with a stethoscope.
- Must be able to hear physician orders given verbally and via telephone, as well as various alarms while performing other duties.
VISION:
- Must be able to see to assess patient conditions and perform various procedures, including initiating IVs, preparing and administering medications, and evaluating monitor readings.
- Must have accurate color perception to assess skin color, circulation, abrasions, and body fluid colors.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
MATHEMATICS:
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical operations to record patient intake and output, as evidenced by passing medication tests.
MEMORY:
- Must be able to recall activities related to patient care.
LANGUAGE ABILITY:
READING:
- Must possess reading skills in English to comprehend all materials related to patient care within the essential performance standards outlined in the job description.
WRITING:
- Must be able to write in English clearly and legibly with a high degree of accuracy.
SPEAKING:
- Must be able to communicate clearly and verbally in English regarding all aspects of patient care, including with physicians, patients, families, and other healthcare workers.
REASONING:
- Must be able to assimilate complex data regarding patient diagnoses and unit procedures.
