Job Overview:

CDM Smith is in search of a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer with extensive expertise in the design and execution of SCADA systems, control mechanisms, and instrumentation within the process sectors. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication abilities, a proven track record of successfully managing projects and teams to address client challenges, robust client relationship management skills, and a dedication to ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Designing and developing a range of SCADA, control, cybersecurity, and instrumentation systems from basic to highly complex.
  2. Generating technical memoranda addressing design challenges for clients.
  3. Preparing preliminary design reports (PDRs) that outline design objectives and criteria.
  4. Creating master plans and needs assessment documents related to SCADA systems and cybersecurity.
  5. Leading and mentoring junior staff, reviewing their work as necessary.
  6. Contributing to proposal development and client presentations, including independently drafting the scope of work and project budget.
  7. Estimating levels of effort (LOEs) for project tasks.
  8. Providing support during construction phases, including reviewing shop drawings and responding to requests for information (RFIs).
  9. Conducting field acceptance testing (FATs) and inspections.
  10. Overseeing the implementation of SCADA system programming and integration tasks.
  11. Designing human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and programming PLC software, as well as developing automated operational reports.
  12. Leading the testing and startup phases for SCADA, control, and instrumentation systems with minimal supervision.
  13. Creating comprehensive operations and maintenance manuals for the designed systems.
  14. Developing training programs for end users across all levels of the client’s organization.
  15. Identifying opportunities to enhance contracts with existing clients.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Professional Engineering (PE) license is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Water/Wastewater sectors is highly preferred, along with a background in engineering or construction firms. Leadership experience is also highly valued.
