The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Emergency Technician to join our team. As a key member of our ICU/ECC team, you will provide technical support to clinical faculty and senior veterinary students in the Emergency Critical Care sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clinicians in receiving emergency patients and help triage and admit patients.
  • Perform critical care nursing procedures in the Intensive Care Unit or treatment areas as directed by clinical faculty.
  • Instruct senior veterinary students in technical and manipulative skills relating to ECC/ICU.
  • Work on call and cover ICU shifts, including holidays.

Requirements

  • Licensed or licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician (LVT).
  • Working knowledge of basic nursing skills.
  • Ability to place intravenous catheters.
  • Experience in critical care nursing in a veterinary medical setting.
  • Knowledge of CPR.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to safely move and handle up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience in a veterinary clinical setting, with emphasis on emergency and critical care.
  • VTS certification in ECC.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: Starting at $42,500 - to commensurate with experience.
