Position: Yard Driver

Working Hours: 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, with overtime as necessary.

Role Summary:

The Yard Driver plays a vital role in the efficient and safe handling of trailers within the yard and between various operational areas. This position is essential for maintaining seamless transportation operations, ensuring that trailers and containers are accurately positioned for effective loading and unloading. Adherence to safety protocols is a critical aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely maneuver trailers within the yard and to designated parking areas as needed.
  • Conduct routine pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicles to verify their safe operational status.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to yard traffic rules.
  • Promptly report any mechanical issues or safety concerns regarding equipment to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized yard environment.
  • Potentially serve as a backup tower operator as required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience operating semi-trucks; a CDL is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive demeanor and providing excellent customer service.
  • Capability to work independently and complete tasks within established guidelines and standard practices.

Work Environment:

  • This role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions while meeting productivity standards.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is required.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly on a radio.

Education & Experience:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
