Job Summary

This is a non-production position working to assist the EHS Manager on all safety and environmental tasks. The job requires that the employee be able to work safely and follow safety rules. The employee must be dependable, able to follow instructions and directions, according to established operating procedures, and perform the following duties while cooperating with all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Wears all personal protective equipment as required by management, including but not limited to all or some of the following: protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator.
  • Must know, understand, and perform all plant and departmental safety regulations and procedures and immediately reports any hazardous conditions.
  • Performs safety observations and complete training assignments.
  • Must know and understand company policies, regulations, and procedures regarding employee conduct and attendance.
  • Excellent attendance and attitude.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Perform opacity readings.
  • Assist with completing environmental documents and records.
  • Ensure maintenance requirements on all environmental permits are completed by due date.
  • Responsible for operating in conformance with the ISO certification held by the Ruston facility.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to have safety-sensitive conversations in a respectable, professional manner.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to express ideas and thoughts verbally; express ideas and thoughts in written form; exhibits good listening and comprehension; keeps others adequately informed; selects and uses appropriate communication methods.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Advanced knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Photoshop).

The employee must frequently lift, push or pull 25 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
