Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Treasury and Collections Supervisor to oversee our Tax Researchers and Senior Tax Researcher, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our tax collection processes.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical direction to the Tax Researchers and Senior Tax Researcher, overseeing daily transactions and assisting with problem accounts as needed.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, discuss corrective actions with the Treasurer and Human Resources, recommend corrective or disciplinary action, and create disciplinary documents as needed.
  • Coordinate, verify, and ensure time entry and employee payroll data are accurate prior to processing payroll.
  • Prepare and enter payroll data into the payroll system, maintain records of leave requests and timesheets, review and analyze payroll reports regarding wages, expenses, and taxes, prepare or direct the preparation of payroll records and reports for submission, and support staff with payroll, leave request, compensation, and annual and sick leave inquiries.
  • Create and provide payroll wage reports for budget analysis, management, and departmental/office requests, audit requests, and Information of Public Records Act requests.
  • Create and analyze spreadsheets to track and monitor delinquent accounts, update data to include mobile homes and personal and real property, verify amounts collected for base tax, penalties, interest, and cost to state.
  • Research and collect on delinquent accounts, work with the Treasury Tax Operations Manager and Tax Researchers to calculate the total collected on worked delinquent accounts that will be going to the state on July 15th of each year, and create, maintain, and provide related reports to the Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer.
  • Research, create, update, and maintain various reports, including returned and incoming mail, outreach programs, payroll, and status reports.
  • Prepare and distribute reports to various mortgage companies, prepare and conduct detailed research for billing tax agencies and finance/mortgage companies, gather, upload, edit, and process/deposit large batch payments from mortgage companies, and create spreadsheets to present to the Treasurer.
  • Communicate and research property accounts for personnel, taxpayers, and representatives from title companies, mortgage companies, and state government offices, including correspondence in person, via email, mail, and telephone.
  • Sort and distribute Treasurer's Office mail, sort, record, and manage the count of all types of correspondence, including the tax bill, delinquent notice, tax postcard, etc.
  • Research, prepare, update, and review Standard Operating Procedures for office functions on an annual basis for audit inspection.
  • Assist with auctions conducted by the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department, work with TRs on the tax list and payments made up to the morning of the auction, coordinate and assist Tax & Revenue Property Tax Division staff assigned to the Treasurer's office during the months preceding the annual auction, attend the auction, and assist the state with any inquiries or requests.
  • Monitor and conduct quality control of all information and data entered into the system by TRs, research, verify, and correct information after placing proper documentation in the system and notifying and receiving approval from the Treasurer.
