Under the direction of the Chief of Primary Care Services or designee, administer diagnostic tests to identify patients with hearing impairments and determine the nature and extent of hearing disorders. Administer specialized measuring devices and tests for identification of hearing impairment of the hospital population, interpret and evaluate results. Practice audiology diagnostics and measurement techniques applicable to the evaluation of hearing disorders; physical, physiological, and psychological basis of hearing impairment. Provide individual and group habilitative and rehabilitative services. Prepare reports and summaries on diagnosis, prognosis, progress, and recommendations for assigned cases.
Responsibilities:- Confer with other disciplines, principles, and family regarding patients' progress and treatment.
- Update manual; maintain appropriate records and quality assurance for patients receiving audiology services.
- Train unit staff in therapeutic procedures and methods of motivation.
- Coordinate therapy with other treatment personnel.
- Participate in research and provision of new diagnostic treatment techniques.
- Administer various types of diagnostic tests measuring hearing disorders, interpret and evaluate test results.
- Adapt remedial aural rehabilitation techniques to the needs of the DSH-MSH mentally disabled patients.
- Supervise and instruct others in audiological evaluation and treatment techniques to meet the needs of the mentally disabled.
- Possession of a valid license to practice audiology in California as determined by the Speech Pathology and Audiology Examining Committee of the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
- Master's Degree in Audiology or deemed equivalent as defined by the Speech Pathology and Audiology Examining Committee.
