Position: Full-Time Assistant Manager for Retail Operations at a National Park Store

Are you passionate about national parks? Western National Parks Association (WNPA), a nonprofit collaborator with the National Park Service (NPS), is in search of a Full-Time Assistant Manager for our Retail Park Store. This role is pivotal in enhancing the visitor experience at our park store, which serves as an extension of the national park journey. Proceeds from sales at the store contribute to educational initiatives, research, and community engagement across numerous national park units.

We are looking for a dedicated leader who will oversee various aspects of retail management, including but not limited to, driving sales and ensuring exceptional customer service. You will play a key role in business planning and the financial success of store operations while fostering positive relationships with our National Park partners. If you are enthusiastic about working in national parks and are committed to a mission-driven organization, this opportunity is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily retail operations.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to visitors.
  • Oversee inventory management and store assets.
  • Ensure effective merchandising of products.
  • Support staff training, leadership, and retention.
  • Monitor store performance to achieve financial objectives.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks to maintain accuracy.
  • Analyze financial reports and provide insights for improvement.
  • Collaborate with NPS and WNPA staff to create engaging educational products.
  • Track and report on sales performance regularly.
  • Supervise volunteers and staff members.
  • Act as a representative of WNPA and NPS to enhance visitor experiences.

Physical Requirements

This role primarily involves administrative tasks, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions. For detailed physical requirements, please reach out to Human Resources.

Travel Requirements

Some travel may be necessary for local events or speaking engagements, including occasional overnight trips. Use of personal or company vehicles may be required.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience in retail and familiarity with POS systems (preferred).
  • Supervisory experience (preferred).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of office equipment and basic operational tools.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, multitasking, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of relevant federal and state regulations.
  • Ability to pass a background check for security clearance.
