Horticulture Instructor Position at a Correctional Facility

The Lake Land College is seeking a skilled Horticulture Instructor to join its team. As a member of our faculty, you will play a vital role in educating students and contributing to the development of the Horticulture Certificate Program.

About the Role:

  • This full-time position involves teaching courses and labs in the Horticulture Certificate Program, preparing or revising guides for courses offered in the division, and submitting them to the appropriate administrator for review.
  • You will be responsible for teaching classes assigned by the Associate Dean and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the college.
  • In addition, you will prepare textbook recommendations and submit them to the Associate Dean, as well as submit purchase order requests for instructional materials, books, required commodities, and supplies for approval.
  • Other key responsibilities include reporting attendance and grades as prescribed by the Associate Dean, attending faculty meetings called by administrative officers, and being on-site for 37.5 hours per week with a 30-minute lunch break.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree is preferred, and teaching experience is desired, especially in Horticulture.
  • Must be able to perform landscaping tasks, compute landscape material requirements, design landscapes, propagate and maintain green plants and shrubs.
  • Good communication skills are essential, along with good interpersonal skills.

Benefits:

  • Vacation hours: 135 hours per year for employees with 1-8 years of service, increasing to 210 hours per year for those with 21+ years of service.
  • Sick hours: 7.5 hours per month, up to a maximum of 1350 hours.

Salary Range: Estimated salary for this position is between $27,300 and $54,800 annually, based on the location in Sheridan, Illinois, and industry standards. This range may vary depending on qualifications and experience.
