Purchasing Agent Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Purchasing Agent to join our team at Home Creations. The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying purchase orders, compiling records, and ensuring accuracy and efficiency in our procurement process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify purchase order requests and compile records for items purchased or transferred between departments.
  • Compute total cost of items purchased and compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates.
  • Verify bills from suppliers with bids and purchase orders, and enter new products and prices into our database.
  • Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency, and consult catalogs or contact vendors to obtain price availability information.
  • Compose documents and letters, and perform other clerical duties as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized office area, and attending all staff meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of office practices and present recommendations to the Manager.
  • Assist in other duties as directed.

Requirements:

  • 1+ year work-related experience, preferably in the home building/construction industry.
  • High school diploma (or GED) and a college degree is a plus.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen, and have reliable transportation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general office practices and purchasing methods.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work in a fast-paced environment, and interact with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate professionally, and demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Good attendance and punctuality is mandatory, and a strong organizational and data entry skills are required.
  • Willingness to be a member of a dedicated team, and have good people skills and professional appearance.

Work Environment: Our office environment is temperature-controlled, and the noise level is moderately quiet. The physical demands of this role include sitting for up to 8 hours per day, repetitive use of fingers for typing, and occasional standing, walking, reaching, and stooping.

Tool and Equipment: We provide Windows PCs, telephones, printers, copiers, and fax machines, as well as other general office equipment.
