Job Title: Histology Technologist

About the Role:

Oviedo Medical Center is seeking a skilled Histology Technologist to join our team. As a Histology Technologist, you will play a critical role in the preparation and examination of tissue samples for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform histology and cytology procedures, including specimen processing, fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC, and special stains.
  • Ensure accurate sample, block, and slide identification.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation.
  • Adhere to department policies regarding quality control and quality assurance.
  • Utilize independent judgment and problem-solving skills to ensure accuracy and proper equipment performance.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and minimum two years of histology experience or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited program in Histo-technology or Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, and one year of histology experience or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) required. State license where required.
  • Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes.
  • Ability to follow protocols for proper fixation and routine staining of samples.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
