Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Training: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program, including a clinical externship; the curriculum must cover pharmacology and medication administration. Fully online programs for the entire curriculum are not acceptable. Certification or registry must be achieved by the end of the six-month hiring period, with an education agreement signed. Acceptable certifications include CMA from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), CCMA from the National Health Career Association (NHA), RMA from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), and others. Alternative work experience may qualify candidates for certification exams if not already certified upon hire.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current certification as CMA, RMA, or CCMA is required.
  • Skills: Ability to successfully complete both generic and department-specific skills validation and competency assessments.
