Job Summary

The City of Medford is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Traffic and Transportation department, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the planning, designing, developing, and managing roadway engineering projects with a focus on traffic-related work. This position requires a strong understanding of transportation engineering principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, designing, developing, and managing roadway engineering projects
• Evaluate plans and proposals drafted by other engineers
• Analyze schematics and engineering data
• Offer recommendations for transportation policies, plans, designs, and construction of roadways
• Prepare, perform, gather, and conduct data collection and cost estimates
• Apply for and assist with managing transportation-related grants
• Assist with traffic planning and engineering studies, including speed studies, vehicle and pedestrian counts, turning movement counts, manual classification counts, crash analyses, parking utilization, and other efforts as required to support roadway projects
• Design and develop roadway improvements, including layout, pavement markings, signage, controls, and traffic signals
• Prepare engineering cost estimates and specifications, and assist with procurement for engineering projects
• Assist with the implementation of the City's pavement management plan and coordinate traffic improvements with scheduled pavement improvements
• Assist field crews with the layout of new pavement markings
• Perform investigations related to traffic control, pavement management, and roadway drainage
• Review Traffic Management Plans submitted to the City by contractors, developers, consultants, etc. to confirm compliance with applicable Federal, State, and City Standards
• Prepare plans for presentations
• Assist in reviewing traffic studies for new developments to confirm compliance with City Standards and to determine the impact on existing traffic volumes and patterns
• Collect GIS data related to roadway and utility assets
• Assist with inquiries and tasks from various city departments and commissions
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the City Engineer or Director of Traffic & Transportation

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on traffic or transportation preferred
• Three (3) years of relevant experience
• Valid driver's license required
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
• Pursuit of Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
