DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares individual income tax returns and may also handle partnership and corporate income tax returns across various sectors under the guidance of the Manager, Senior Manager, Director, or Partner, ensuring timely and high-quality service.
- Organizes documentation, maintains a list of outstanding items, and conducts a self-review of work prior to submission for review.
- Provides technical support, tax planning, and research on income tax matters.
- Develops or proposes solutions when addressing issues.
- Keeps clients updated on tax developments that may impact their business.
- Gains insight into the service capabilities and offerings of the Firm, identifying opportunities to provide additional services to both new and existing clients.
- Stays informed of any changes and ensures adherence to internal and external regulations and policies, including time tracking.
- Actively prepares for and attempts the CPA exam until successful completion.
- Maintains the necessary Continuing Professional Education (CPE) to meet Firm and licensing standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to engage and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Capability to organize information, analyze, and interpret data/research based on client needs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and superior service.
- Works independently under pressure with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and thorough.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills and diligently executes assigned tasks with the utmost professionalism and integrity.
- Must maintain a high level of professionalism, including the ability to uphold confidentiality.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with professionals at all levels.
- Engages in Firm, professional, and community activities that contribute to the community and enhance the overall marketing efforts of Heard, McElroy, & Vestal.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting with a strong academic record (minimum GPA of 3.0); must meet the minimum requirements to sit for the CPA exam; accounting-based internship and/or recent tax preparation experience preferred; involvement in campus and civic activities in leadership roles is advantageous.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, office equipment, computer hardware, and peripheral devices. Develops proficiency in Firm software applications and procedures as well as tax preparation and research software.
Firm Culture/Client Service:
Promotes the firm's culture, including supporting Heard, McElroy & Vestal's philosophy of building personal relationships with each client, catering to their specific needs. Exhibits the ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, clients, and management. Actively develops team members at all levels. Ability to serve clients, both internal and external (community/public) in a manner that fosters superior client relations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and communicate. The employee is frequently required to walk or use hands to manipulate objects. The employee may occasionally be required to stand; reach with hands and arms and bend or kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet.
