The ideal candidate will ensure that adequate time is allocated for each appointment.
Success in this position requires a friendly and professional demeanor when handling phone inquiries. An outstanding Appointment Coordinator should excel in fostering positive relationships with referring physicians and healthcare staff.
This role involves direct patient engagement, particularly focusing on immunotherapy treatments.
The candidate must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: VP of Ancillary Services
Collaborates with: Other administrative personnel
Key Responsibilities:
- Organizing, modifying, and canceling patient appointments as necessary.
- Addressing patient inquiries regarding fundamental medical tests and procedures.
- Providing guidance to patients to ensure they are adequately prepared for examinations and treatments.
- Confirming patient appointments effectively.
- Coordinating referral appointments and follow-up visits.
- Verifying insurance information.
- Supporting Nurse Practitioners with prescription refills, orders, and referrals.
- Assisting with home patient injections and other procedures as required.
- Administering immunotherapy injections.
Qualifications:
- Valid LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) license in South Carolina.
- Demonstrated experience in a medical office setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance plans.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Professional telephone etiquette.
- Willingness to travel within designated service areas.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
- Capacity to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Ability to interact tactfully with staff, patients, family members, and the public.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Knowledge of palliative care nursing practices and relevant regulations.
- Ability to understand and execute written and verbal instructions.
- Willingness to explore and integrate new methods and principles into existing practices.
- Familiarity with computer systems and data management.
Work Environment:
- Work is conducted in office settings, healthcare facilities, and vehicles.
- Intermittent movement during working hours.
- Frequent interruptions are common.
- Engagement with patients, family members, and various personnel.
- May require working beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Availability for emergency callbacks.
- Participation in ongoing educational programs is expected.
- Communication with department supervisors, staff, patients, families, and third-party representatives is essential.
