Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Locksmith to join our team at the Ohio Department of Commerce. As a Locksmith, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and replacing locks and locking devices, as well as maintaining and repairing parts fabrication of locks in cell blocks, doors, cabinets, and safes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, and replace cylinder and key locks and door closers
  • Panic bars and/or related locking hardware/devices
  • Lubricates and adjusts locks and locking devices
  • Repairs electronic locking devices
  • Installs deadbolts, makes master locks and keys
  • Maintains and repairs parts fabrication of locks in cell blocks, doors, cabinets, and/or safes
  • Performs preventive maintenance on locks and doors
  • Operates personal computer to prepare and maintain work-related records, documentation, and/or reports
  • Keeps records of all door locks within the facility
  • Maintains identification of keys and keeps records of keys issued
  • Maintains inventory of parts, material, and equipment needed and issued and prepares requisitions
  • Prepares periodic reports and responds to information requests
  • Repairs doors, frames, and/or hinges if needed for lock repair
  • Makes chits (i.e., identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles, and other devices as needed
  • Maintains, programs, and enters information in electronic key system (i.e., Morse Watchman)
  • Serves on institutional committees
  • Attends training, seminars, and/or meetings as required
  • Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

12 months of training or experience in locksmithing and 3 months of training or experience in inventory control, or equivalent minimum class qualifications for employment.
