Automotive Repair Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Automotive Repair Specialist to join our team at the University of California, Santa Cruz. In this role, you will be responsible for performing operational-level vehicular and equipment repair duties, including maintenance and repairs on hybrid and electric vehicles, standby & emergency generators up to 150kw, compressors, trailers, tractors, mowers, ATVs and all medium to light-duty vehicles under 14,500lbs GVWR.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will have journeyman level experience in light-duty and automotive repair, with the ability to perform or assist in the repair and maintenance of light-duty (20%) - Diagnostic (20%) - Inspect light-duty and automotive equipment to determine necessary corrective action, perform derivative diagnostic of computer-controlled engines and communicate findings to supervisor for review (20%); Equipment Operation (40%). They will also have experience in handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste, as well as the ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions and demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
Responsibilities- Perform or assist in the repair and maintenance of light-duty vehicles, including but not limited to hybrid and electric vehicles, standby & emergency generators up to 150kw, compressors, trailers, tractors, mowers, ATVs and all medium to light-duty vehicles under 14,500lbs GVWR.
- Inspect light-duty and automotive equipment to determine necessary corrective action, perform derivative diagnostic of computer-controlled engines and communicate findings to supervisor for review.
- Operate and maintain automotive shop equipment, including but not limited to engine analyzers, battery chargers, emissions analyzers, brake lathes, grinders, tire machines, scan tools, automotive hoists.
- Journeyman level experience in light-duty and automotive repair.
- Experience in handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions and demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
This is a full-time, fixed appointment with a salary range of $30.27 - $39.35/hour, commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Benefits include full benefits for career appointments and mid-level benefits for limited appointments. The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check, possess a valid license to drive in the state of California, and complete training within established time frames as directed.
