Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Medical Telemetry team at SSM Health. As a Medical Telemetry Registered Nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care to residents with acute, subacute, and chronic illnesses, administering medications and treatments according to established care plans and federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Provide quality care to residents, administering medications and treatments according to standards of care and maintaining competency in all required nursing skills.
  • Provide direction to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and monitor the workflow of the unit to ensure coordination of care.
  • Use the nursing process for assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, reporting significant changes to physicians as indicated.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of medications at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring accurate distribution of medications to all residents according to the 5 rights.
  • Monitor for medication side effects and ensure that medications are provided in a manner consistent with manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Give guidance and direction to auxiliary staff, participating in report meetings at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Communicate with residents, guardians, and family members on the current condition and needs of residents in accordance with regulations and standards of practice.
  • Provide teaching and training to residents and families as needed, ensuring that preventative measures are in place, such as specialty mattresses, foam boots, weekly skin checks, turning/repositioning schedules, toileting schedules, and cushions in all wheelchairs.
  • Follow up on reports of rashes, open areas, edema, blisters, skin tears, or bleeding, responding promptly to alarms.
  • Ensure that restraint alternatives are in place/activated, including personal alarms, cushion alarms, wheelchair belts, tumble mats, alarm mats, bolstered beds, and hip protectors.
  • Provide and ensure quality end-of-life care, using comfort baskets to meet resident and family needs, ensuring hygiene, comfort, and spiritual needs are met, treating pain/restlessness, and offering family courtesy meal trays and other amenities.
  • Demonstrate compliance with post-mortem care procedures, participating in departure ceremonies.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, performing point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures, and performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
  • No experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
