Position Summary for RN Med Surg Ortho Nights

The Registered Nurse delivers direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Implement and oversee patient care plans, ensuring accurate monitoring, documentation, and communication of patient conditions as necessary.
- Act as the primary coordinator among various disciplines to ensure well-organized patient care.
- Execute physician and nursing orders efficiently.
- Assess and coordinate discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.

Assessment - The RN employs a systematic approach to gather and analyze data about a patient, which is the foundational step in delivering nursing care. This assessment encompasses physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.

- Focused assessment based on patient condition, setting, and population

Problem Identification - The nurse's clinical judgment regarding the patient's response to actual or potential health conditions or needs.

Planning and Outcomes - Following assessment and problem identification, the nurse collaborates with the patient and family to establish measurable and achievable short- and long-term goals. This information is documented in the patient's care plan for access by all healthcare professionals involved in the patient's care.

- Formulate a comprehensive care plan
- Plan for transition or discharge

Implementation - Nursing care is executed according to the care plan, ensuring continuity of care during hospitalization and preparation for discharge. Care is documented in the patient's medical record.

- Ensure patient safety
- Administer medications
- Provide ordered treatments
- Educate patients and families
- Deliver nursing care
- Document in healthcare records

Evaluation - Continuously assess both the patient's status and the effectiveness of nursing care, modifying the care plan as necessary.

Care Coordination - Actions initiated by nurses with patients, families, and/or members of the healthcare team to manage and enhance the sequence, timing, and effectiveness of patient care from admission to discharge.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE RN MED SURG ORTHO NIGHTS POSITION

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
License Required: Valid current Arizona Nursing License or compact state license with the ability to obtain Arizona licensure within 30 days.
Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association and any additional certifications as required by the department.
Certification Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or others as required by the department.

EDUCATION
Required: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Compliance with continuing education requirements as defined within the CARE program.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
