Research Scientist Position: Algae-based Wastewater Remediation

Auburn University seeks a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our team in the Biosystems Engineering Department. As a key member of our Algae Systems and Ecological Engineering Lab, you will contribute to cutting-edge research on algae-based wastewater remediation.

About the Position

The successful candidate will lead an investigation into bioprospecting for filamentous algal species suitable for nutrient recovery from wastewater streams. Your research will focus on identifying candidate warm-water species from selected watersheds in the southeastern U.S., particularly Alabama and Georgia, and examining their response to temperature, flow rate, and nutrient concentration.

We are seeking an exceptional individual with expertise in algae culturing and cultivation, as well as experience with water quality measurements and environmental monitoring protocols. Familiarity with advanced methods for chemical and biological analyses of algae culturing and biomass is also desirable.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • An earned Ph.D. in Phycology, Applied Phycology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in algal strain collection and identification, purification, and culturing in the laboratory
  • Familiarity with filamentous algal species and experience with water quality measurements and environmental monitoring protocols
