Job Objective:
To enhance patient recovery, relieve discomfort, and avert disabilities through the strategic planning and execution of medically endorsed rehabilitation therapies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Addresses patient objectives and requirements while delivering high-quality care by evaluating and interpreting assessments and diagnostic results; formulating rehabilitation treatment strategies in collaboration with healthcare providers or as directed by prescriptions.
  • Facilitates patient adherence to treatment plans and the use of therapeutic aids by guiding manual exercises; instructing, motivating, and assisting patients in engaging in physical activities, including non-manual exercises, mobility tasks, and daily living skills, as well as utilizing assistive devices like crutches, canes, and prosthetics.
  • Implements rehabilitation therapies by performing massages; initiating traction; applying therapeutic modalities; utilizing hydrotherapy equipment and whirlpool baths, moist heat packs, ultraviolet and infrared light, and ultrasound technology; overseeing treatments administered by aides, technicians, and assistants.
  • Assesses the outcomes of rehabilitation therapies and the fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, documenting, and evaluating patient progress; suggesting necessary adjustments and modifications.
  • Completes discharge planning by collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals; participating in patient care meetings.
  • Ensures the continuation of therapeutic plans post-discharge by creating home exercise regimens; educating patients, families, and caregivers on home exercise protocols; recommending and/or supplying assistive devices; advising on outpatient or home health follow-up services.
  • Records patient care activities by documenting in patient and departmental records.
  • Safeguards patient confidentiality and protects healthcare operations by maintaining information privacy.
  • Upholds a safe and sanitary work environment by adhering to established procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Protects patients and staff by following infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensures equipment functionality by fulfilling preventive maintenance requirements; adhering to manufacturer guidelines; troubleshooting issues; requesting repairs as needed.
  • Enhances professional and technical expertise by attending educational seminars; reviewing industry publications; building professional networks; engaging in professional organizations.
  • Fosters the development of rehabilitation staff by providing insights; designing and conducting in-service training sessions.
  • Adheres to federal, state, and local legal and professional standards by studying current and upcoming legislation; anticipating future regulations; enforcing compliance; advising management on necessary actions.
  • Contributes to team success by achieving related objectives as required.
