Job Summary

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled Senior PACS Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our Information Technology Department, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our departmental PACS equipment, including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, pre-fetching, and other related activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for day-to-day PACS operations within assigned service lines, including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, prefetching, and other related activities.
  • Manage and coordinate system security to ensure unauthorized personnel cannot access vital information locally or remotely.
  • Assign and update user and system passwords and access levels.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure all equipment is well maintained and operating in a safe work environment.
  • Perform backups as needed.
  • Ensure studies are flowing from modalities to the archive and to reading stations through various interfaces and processing queues.
  • Fix broken and corrupted studies; split and merge studies as needed.
  • Update system configuration as new modalities, workstations, and procedure codes are added over time.
  • Investigate, identify, and prepare proposals to solve operational problems within clinical imaging areas.
  • Ensure validation of details and be responsible for network and operational management of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Assist with implementation, day-to-day operations, and upgrades as necessary to maintain the system at optimal performance.
  • Ensure timely and complete capture of image data into the PACS, as well as network transmissions, information system validation, and exception handling.
  • Provide input to direct manager and appropriate business unit managers to assist in identifying present and future needs for PACS equipment.
  • Assist end users with PACS-related issues.
  • Provide support and application maintenance, as well as train new hires and clinicians, and update PACS-related training.
  • Maintain secure records of all PACS equipment.
  • Oversee PACS integrations, including DICOM and HL7, dictionary database structure setup and maintenance, application and hardware redundancy procedures, downtime protocols, and archival strategies for PACS clinical data.
  • Perform QC as indicated for PACS-related hardware and in accordance with departmental regulatory requirements. Perform testing for upgrades and problem-solving during implementations, simulation, and support phases of the PACS and related departmental Information Systems.
  • Oversee activities of vendors in all phases of installation, implementation, and training for new systems, applications, and upgrades.
  • Assist PACS Administrators and Analysts with day-to-day operations and on-the-job-related questions.
  • Participate in on-call rotations covering 24x7x365.
  • Perform site visits (including satellites) with departmental leadership.
  • Conduct workflow analysis and optimization.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems/Technology recommended.
  • Minimum 3 years' Image archive and/or PACS experience.
  • Solid understanding of clinical workflow within one or more clinical service lines and how it relates to Medical Imaging and PACS.
  • Excellent attention to detail, project management skills, and applications training skills.
  • Experience with Hologic, Montage, TeraRecon, and Nuance PowerScribe360 preferred.
  • CIIP or PARCA certification preferred.
